Conference Information
In addition to or conference, we have several additional professional development opportunities planned for the fall:
ACTFL OPI Familiarization
October 11th, 2012 8:00am-5:00 pm
Location: Hemlock/Oak joint room
Intended as an introduction to the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines, the ACTFL Rating Scale, and the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview, this workshop includes live demonstration interviews conducted by the trainer in English or the common language of the group. Participants discuss the implications of the ACTFL Proficiency Scale and the Oral Proficiency Interview for establishing program goals, and for planning curriculum, instruction, and assessment. This workshop normally runs $140 or more, but thanks to sponsorship from ACTFL and PNCFL, this workshop will be only $80, which includes lunch and 8 professional development units.
Dual Immersion Summit
October 11, 2012 9:00 am–4:00 pm (registration open at 8:00 am)
Cost: $50, which includes catered lunch and 7 professional development units
Location: Alder Room
Audience: District and school administrators and other educators and policy makers (e.g., school board members and community leaders) interested in starting or expanding Dual Immersion programs of a variety of models (two-way dual, one-way, partial immersion, full immersion, etc.).
Saturday Workshop: What is the Essential Question?
October 13th, 2:00-4:00 pm
Cost: $20
Presenters: Dave McAlpine (ACTFL president) and Yo Azama (current Teacher of the Year)
The workshop will focus on deciding on the essential question that will make a difference to students how they engage with the material in a world language classroom. Information on Backward Design, forming the Essential Question, and how an IPA can help
Registration
Online registration is now closed. You can still register on conference day, but will unfortunately have to make separate meal arrangements.

Hotel Reservations
The deadline for reduced price rooms at the Hilton has passed, but you can still reserve rooms at the Hilton while availability lasts.

Overnight guests: $12 for self parking and $15 for valet
